We have been at this since 1980 when I first moved to Grand Forks. Back in those day there were plenty of places to play in a band. My first band was Fly by Night . We had all acoustic instrumentation and I played bass. Later I played in a few Country Rock bands and ended up as a solo and duo performer when the gigs started demanding this. I soon learned how to make my own backing tracks so we had the bass ,drums and sometimes keyboards. The quality of those backing tracks has improved by leaps and bounds and I'm quiet proud of how my "Band" sounds now.
I have dedicated probably 30% of my music making time to these tracks . It helps to be tech savvy as well as a pretty good bass player and, well, I'm OK on drums and keyboards too, but for those I will give credit to what modern recording tools can do to make me sound like a pro!
As a solo act I only play at a few dances a year and this is just fine by me.
As Sock Monkey we play a few outdoor gigs and coffee houses. We also play once a month at the Care Facility where I work in Activities.
As an activities worker I also do sing a longs and often just sit and play to small groups of the residents on my trusty old acoustic guitar.
Here's a sample video of my playing live.
